when do babies start teething

Teething and Throwing Up

For first time parents, nothing is more worrying than not knowing why your baby is kicking up a storm by crying. Those who already have experience would probably not bat an eyelid because they know what to do.

However, first timers would probably be having a tough time figuring out why the baby is crying and especially how to stop them. The cause could be wide and varied - from being hungry, to feeling uncomfortable, to indigestion and the list goes on and on. However, if your baby is in the stage where his teeth is starting to grow, then teething and throwing up will probably go hand in hand and that could very well be the reason for the tears.

First of all, the key to helping your baby when he is teething and throwing up is to keep your cool. Never, ever panic because then that would definitely make the situation worse. Yes, you are unhappy that your baby is in pain and you can’t seem to help him at all.

However, no matter how frustrated you are, always remember that you are the adult and that you should remain calm all the time. Also, do keep in mind that your baby is feeling some pain because he is teething and throwing up so don’t go walking around in your designer clothing because chances are you will get some of it on you!

To calm your baby down, one of the best solutions would be to rock him gently in your arms. This will help soothe him and make him less aware of the pain that he is going through. Most of the time, you will find that your baby is more comfortable in your arms than on his cot so be prepared to spend countless hours rocking him up and down to calm him down.

You could also invest in those makeshift prams that you can gently rock from side to side so that you don’t end up with sore arms. Another idea would be to place your baby on a pillow on a rocking chair.

As mentioned earlier, a baby who is teething and throwing up would have a lot of fluids coming out from him.   This can also be considered as one of the baby teething symptoms.  So be prepared with enough towels and napkins to wipe away the vomit and drool. If possible, take extra precaution because you do not want your baby to be excreting all over the place.

If you plan to use the rocking chair idea, then it would be good to have your napkins and extra towels nearby the rocking chair so that you do not have to move around too much if your baby is teething and throwing up. That way you will be able to handle anything because you know you have made the necessary preparations.

Parents will always be worried about their babies, however, always remember that teething is an important and integral part of growing up for your child. Do not worry unnecessarily. Of course, it is a good idea to monitor your baby’s temperature if and when he starts teething.

Teething and throwing up are normal occurrences but do not hesitate to seek medical help if something out of the ordinary were to occur.
